I worry that a 3 year term as convention planner would discourage people from running for that office.  I was the convention planning chair in 2023.  I can confidently say that I learned a lot during that year and that there are many things I would have changed or done differently if given the chance to chair again for 2 more years, however, taking that task on in 2 subsequent years would have been tough (please understand that here, I am speaking for myself and my situation).  I worry too that life circumstances may arise for someone elected to this 3-year term and those circumstances may prevent the successful completion of a 3 year term as convention planning chairperson.

I do, however, feel that a 3-year term for long-range planning is essential for the continuity and growth of the organization.  I also can see the benefit of 3 year terms for president/vice president.  Speaking from experience in ICTA leadership, I feel that it is essential that people in those positions to  have a good understanding of the workings and history of the organization.

Good question, Heather. Is three years as VP for Convention too much?
